KYBELLA™

KYBELLA™ injection is the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment that contours and improves the appearance of submental fullness, sometimes referred to as “double chin”. Fat cells are killed and eliminated by your body while surrounding tissues are unaffected. 1-5 treatment sessions may be required; each requires 1-2 vials of KYBELLA™. Dr. Brahmatewari will customize your KYBELLA™ treatment regimen, including how many treatments you need, based on the amount of submental fat you need to lose and your desired chin profile. Dr. Brahmatewari will administer a series of injections spaced a month or more apart. Many patients see visible contouring after 2 treatments. KYBELLA™ destroys fat cells when injected into the fat beneath your chin. Once the aesthetic goal is achieved, re-treatment is not expected. The active ingredient in KYBELLA™ is deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, KYBELLA™ causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat.

What are possible side effects of KYBELLA™?

The most common side effects of KYBELLA™ include: swelling, pain, numbness, bruising, redness, and areas of hardness in the treatment area. KYBELLA™ can cause serious side effects, including difficulty swallowing and nerve injury in the jaw that can cause an uneven smile or weakness of facial muscles. Who should not receive KYBELLA™?

You should not receive KYBELLA™ if you have an infection in the neck area. Tell Dr. Brahmatewari about any medical conditions, planned or past surgery or cosmetic treatments on your face, neck, or chin; or any history of medical conditions in or near the neck area; trouble swallowing; or bleeding problems. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant (it is not known if KYBELLA™ will harm your unborn baby), are breastfeeding, or plan to breastfeed (it is not known if KYBELLA™ passes into your breast milk, talk to Dr. Brahmatewari about the best way to feed your baby if you receive KYBELLA™).
